It happens to the best of us. Life gets busy, years pass, and suddenly your certification card is gathering dust at the back of a drawer. The good news? Your PADI certification never expires — and getting back in the water is easier than you think.

Does My PADI Certification Expire?
No. Your PADI certification is valid for life, no matter how long it's been since your last dive. You don't need to recertify.
That said, if it's been a while, we'll want to make sure your skills and confidence are back to where they need to be before heading out on a guided dive — which is where the Scuba Review comes in.
What Is a Scuba Review (Refresher Dive)?
A Scuba Review is a short, structured refresher session designed to bring your skills back up to speed. At Kefi Divers, this takes place as a separate dive before joining a guided dive.
You'll go over the key skills — buoyancy, regulator use, mask clearing, and emergency procedures — in a relaxed, shallow environment with one of our instructors. There's no exam, no pressure. It's simply about rebuilding your confidence before heading to deeper or more interesting sites.
Do I Need a Refresher?
It depends on how long it's been and how comfortable you feel. As a general guide:
Less than 1 year: You may be fine to join a guided dive after a brief skills check with your instructor.
More than 1 year but you're an experienced diver: We recommend a quick catch-up with your instructor before diving — a short in-water check is usually enough.
Many years or a significant gap: A Scuba Review is required before joining a guided dive.
When you contact us to book, just let us know how long it's been — we'll advise you honestly and make sure you're set up for a great experience.
What Should I Bring?
Just your certification card (or log book if you have it) and a sense of excitement. We provide all equipment — wetsuit, BCD, regulator, tank, mask, fins, and weights. Everything is regularly serviced to the highest standards.
If you can't find your certification card, don't worry — PADI certifications can be looked up online using your name and date of birth.
What's the Diving Like in Almyrida?
Almyrida is one of the best places in Greece to ease back into diving . The water is calm, clear, and warm — 22°C in spring, up to 28°C in summer — with visibility regularly exceeding 20 metres.
Our guided dives visit a variety of established sites along Crete's northern coast, including vibrant reefs and the iconic Elephant Cave. As the new Apokoronas Diving Park develops, the Tugboat Nestor and HMS Folegandros will become exciting future wreck destinations for certified divers. Groups are kept small — a maximum of 4 divers per instructor — so you'll get plenty of personal attention.
I'm Nervous. Is That Normal?
Completely. Most lapsed divers feel a mix of excitement and nerves before their first dive back. That's exactly why we take the refresher seriously — by the time you've completed your Scuba Review, most of that anxiety has disappeared and you're ready to enjoy the dive.
